About Us

Superior Lighting Inc. is a family-owned lighting and sign maintenance service provider with over 40 years experience in the industry. We serve clients in a six-state area helping our customers reduce energy costs, enhance their image and improve safety.

Superior Lighting was founded in 1968 by William T. Swarbrick with its first location in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then, we have grown to include an additional branch in Des Moines Iowa and satellite technicians in Sioux Falls SD, Springfield MO, Chicago, Davenport IA, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Wichita, and Denver.

Mr. Swarbrick was joined by his good friend and professional hockey teammate Minnie Menard in the 70's with the opening of the Des Moines branch. While the elder Swarbrick and Menard are still part of the business as members of the board of directors, day to day operation of the enterprise has been handed down to their sons and daughter.

Our services include interior and exterior lighting maintenance, sign installation and service, night/day lighting inspection services, security lighting, parking light lighting, petroleum site conversions, neon sign installation, energy saving lighting upgrades, sales of name-brand bulbs and ballasts and recycling and disposal of hazardous lighting materials.

No customer is too large or too small. Our customer base extends from locally owned and operated business with a single location to multi-location accounts over a six state geographic area. We service over 4000 customer work sites.

Our service is "superior", which is why we chose that as part of our name. We know that if we do not take good care of our customers, someone else will.

An inventory of over $400,000 assures that we have the components available when you need them. Our fleet of 35 bucket equipped trucks services your needs promptly and efficiently. In addition, our fleet includes 5 large trucks with cranes reaching 85 feet, allowing us to address all of your signage needs. We can cover over 95% of our customers' needs with these investments in inventory and specialty lift equipment.

Bill Swarbrick, son of the founder, leads our management team which includes CFO Ed Hagstrom, General Manager Paul Shy, Omaha Service Manager Greg Smith, Des Moines Service Manager Dan Menard, and Projects Manager Bob Menard. Rick Swarbrick, Bill's brother, leads our six person sales staff.

We are proud of our technical staff. Thirty-one people strong, they include licensed journey men electricians, licensed sign installers and all hold their CALT certification. Our sales staff includes a Certified Lighting Management Consultant experienced in evaluating all of your lighting management problems and providing appropriate cost saving solutions.
