August 15, 2011 – The summer 2011 edition of Omaha’s local electric company, "Ideas For Better Energy Management", features Allied Oil & Supply, showing how investments in lighting upgrades yield healthy savings.

August 10, 2011 – Sylvania, a leading fluorescent lighting manufacturer and supplier to the distributors of Superior Lighting Inc. has announced that they will be reviewing any previously communicated firm pricing proposals for potential increases.
Proposals contain linear fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps will increase due to their use of rare earth elements whose cost has skyrocketed in recent months.

AUGUST 10, 2011 – Phillips, a primary supplier to the distributors servicing Superior Lighting Inc. Has announced a price increase resulting from the soaring costs of rare earth elements mined in China.
Philips also indicates that their prices will be reviewed every 90 days, assumedly in anticipation of further price changes.
Click here for the actual announcement.
This past year, the prices of rare earth elements, which comprise 65% of the cost of linear and compact fluorescent lamps, have increased nearly 300%. Rare earth elements are mined primarily in China which controls 95% of the world’s supply. The Chinese government has taken actions which have limited their export resulting in unprecedented price increases.
Every major lighting manufacturer (GE, Sylvania, and Phillips) has announced price increases effective August 1 2011 of up to 85%. These price increases are being passed down the supply chain ultimately to the end user.
Going forward, the combination of an escalating demand for rare earth elements and the continuing supply restriction by the Chinese Government will only serve to exacerbate the current situation.

June 29, 2010 — Inspecting customer facilities during the day presents problems determining exactly which lighting requires servicing due to the intensity of the sunlight. Oftentimes outages are overlooked by both the customer and the technician. When this happens, customers understandably get frustrated having to submit a service call after a scheduled inspection has been completed. Superior solves this problem through the addition of a nighttime inspector in the Omaha region. Bill Boren joins Superior's staff to perform facility inspections in the evening hours. Bill will travel a prescribed route each evening in a clearly marked utility vehicle to each customer with an inspection agreement. Using his digital camera, outages will be clearly documented and passed along to the service technician the next morning and available to the customer for review. This value added service is one of the things making Superior, superior.
